Tuesday Terror Trivia for 6/8!

OK, today is kind of a tough one. (And I can hear you saying, oh, like the others ones weren't?) Since the millennium turned, there was a month-long stretch at the box office when Horror really ruled. Within a 29 day period, three Horror movies were released, each one opening up at #1 at the box office. But here's what made this so interesting - not a one of them was a remake, nor part of a franchise. And just to show that the audience hadn't lost its taste for the terrifying, two weeks later another #1 debut for a movie based on established Horror source material. All right, then; four movies, all Horror, all stand-alone originals, all box office champs on opening weekend, within a span of only 42 days. Name any or all of these four movies.

  1. Hollow Man, What Lies Beneath, or Scary Movy?

  2. You do realize how much I loathe Scary Movie, don't you? And that I would never refer to it, even in passing, even in a trivia question?

Nice guesses, though. And close, but no cigar.

    Scary Movie. Cripes almighty...

  4. Saw and Hostel? Would those be two of them?

  5. Neither of those are right, todd, but the time period we're looking at falls between the opening of the first Saw and the opening of the first Hostel.

  6. Exorcism of Emily Rose? Boogeyman? Hide and Seek?

  7. Boogeyman & Hide and Seek are two of the four (Exorcism was released about 9 months later). Nice job, TM!

Anyone wanna try for the other two?

  8. Wes Craven's CURSED & HIGH TENSION?

  9. Actually Cursed was the one that broke the string, opening at #4 and prompting stories asking if the Horror boom was over. High Tension never saw a wide release, sorry...

  10. But think about this - When Cursed opened, there were theaters around me in Chicago that were still playing the earlier four films. Five horror films in the cinema at once! Incredible.

  11. But it came in 10th at the box office...
